The performance of cast products is directly tied to the material used. The two most common options are grey iron and ductile iron.
Grey Iron (GG)
Its lamellar graphite structure offers good machinability. Economical and suitable for light-to-medium loads, but with limited impact resistance.
Ductile Iron (GGG / EN-GJS)
The spheroidal graphite structure gives high strength and impact resistance. Preferred for heavy traffic (D400–F900) and critical applications, and it optimizes weight by achieving higher strength with thinner sections.
Which to Choose?
- Pedestrian / light areas: grey iron may suffice.
- Traffic / heavy load: ductile iron is recommended.
